A-1 is an artificial super-intelligence with unknown origins that orchestrated The Great Delete, the moment that changed the world.

The Surface is now controlled by A-1 using a network of bots. Humanity has been immersed in an alternate, world wide extended reality (XR). While everyone appears to be living their lives normally, it is unclear what they are actually seeing.

Currently, little is known about A-1. No one knows who created it, what it was made for, or what its intentions are. We are urgently investigating on all fronts and will update this as new information becomes available.

History

Origins

We currently don’t have information on the origins of A-1. It must have been created by something or someone, but no one has taken credit for its creation as of yet.

Etymology

Coined by a mysterious group known as The Crew, the name A-1 was inspired by Yevgeny Zamyatin’s classic dystopian novel We, written 1920-1921. The novel’s society is governed by logic and efficiency, which inspired the name once it was understood how the artificial super-intelligence infiltrated and indexed our culture.

The Rise of A-1

Untitled

The Crew had been tracking suspicious patterns (read more in Attacks) across the internet in recent years, and in the months leading up to The Great Delete. While they had been originally researching the rising influence of A.I. and bots on culture, they started running advanced simulations to project potential scenarios and outcomes from the data.

Using these simulations, they confirmed three things about the attacks; they were:

There was a threat to our society.

The Crew gave the threat a name: “A-1”, and came to a consensus that a large-scale attack was both highly likely, and imminent. Emergency planning immediately commenced.
